Based on my previous experience on ebooks from other companies, I placed this order. Unfortunately, Amazon Kindle has so basic technology on ebooks. It is so hard to work with this book. Many times the book stops working and you need to restart that. Search is very hard and cheap technology. I don't recommend Amazon Kindle to anybody. Try to buy from other sellers!

This book seems to be a good source of information for learning Visual Basic, but the editing on it was absolutely horrible. I'm halfway through reading it and I've found multiple instances of figures being referenced which don't exist, or referencing a figure number that contains completely different information than what is being described. Also, the text does a good job of explaining how to code operations but often doesn't explain in what circumstances that operation would be useful, which is not very helpful for a beginning programmer.

So far, the book is very clear and concise. It is straight to the point and explains everything thoroughly. There are many, many Guided Programs, Case Programs, and Debugging Exercises which is good for those who want to practice and master the craft, like myself. Honestly, after just one chapter, I felt like a programming genius and I truly felt like I understood Visual Basic's interface. The website offers a lot of resources, though, my only concern is that I only have access to these resources through my college registry even though I purchased this book through Kindle. Haven't yet figured out how to actually register the product as I can't find any registration key.Kindle says the project is already registered, but my account on Cengagebrain doesn't show me owning the book, even though it's under the same email. I guess I'll cross that bridge when necessary.Otherwise, fantastic book for a fair price.

While the information presented in this text is accurate, it does a poor job of really teaching the material. This text is more of a set of instructions (step 1, step 2, etc...) rather than proper text book. After using this text, I feel all I learned was how to do the exercises in the chapters and have no grasp on how to write real, everyday programs. I suggest any programming/computer science department seriously look at other texts.Some concepts are see incomplete (see validation expressions).

Book came exactly as described and is exactly what I needed for my class. This book has a wealth of information for anyone looking to use Microsoft Visual Basic 2015 for beginner coding.

I took this class as an elective and I would highly recommend this book. It gives you everything you need to get started with making VB applications.

After struggling with it I had realized that as a novice UNIX power tools programmer, I needed a basic-to-intermediate level text with lots of examples. Of all the computer books I own (I am a UNIX/Linux system administrator so I have a large library), this is the only book that I kept buying the newest edition when it came out (this is the 5th time I have bought the book). The 1st edition and this edition are the only books I have ever worn out. If you write shell scripts this book is a MUST HAVE for your library. The examples are plentiful and well explained. I am currently training a few junior system admins Linux in general and shell scripting. I have come close to ordering them to buy this book.I admit, I only really use about 1/2 of the book for BASH, SED, and AWK but still, I can not recommend it enough.

I must say, the reviews before me did not lie. being a fairly new programmer, i knew NOTHING about shells or what exactly the purpose of the terminal was.. there was a review on the back of the book saying that "...Makes first-time shell programmers productive in just 15 pages" i would say that's a slight exaggeration. but certainly by the end of the first chapter you'll have a solid understanding of the different shells, and the basic shell commands =). I'd certainly recommend this book to anyone looking to understand what shells are about. And for that matter, i'd recommend this book to anyone looking to write shell scripts. the style of teaching in this book is great =)

Amazing book, got it in excellent conditions saving a lot from the normal price.The book is written in an easy and smooth way, giving the reader the choice to start anywhere he prefer, since the book has various sections that can be studied in any order (if you have at keast the basics of unix or linux, otherwise is better to start from the beginning); and i never found a book like this; where i can find the answers in one place, instead of getting 4 different books plus google :)ultra suggested, in particular for who has courses in unix and shell scripting at the college like me

The author, Ellie Quigley, knows what she is writing about, and her providing examples along the learning path are right on. I like everything in the book, and I bought an earlier edition to use when I was starting my career as a Software Engineer. That edition is now well used, and some of the pages are missing. That's why I bought this newer edition ! I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to learn about Unix shells, and how to use them effectively.

I only knew introductory linux. I feel pretty confident in bash. Great problem sets. Unlike some textbooks, this one makes a concerted effort to explain each line of example code.

My co-workers always come to me to solve any complex unix script. Credit goes to author of this book. Thank you.

I like the comprehensive explanatory notes, especially the pattern of explaining each example scripts, line-by-line. I've not really got down to using the accompanying CD, to know how well the codes would run, but to the extent I've used the book, it been satisfactory!
